Export Catalog Guide — Building a Catalog for International Buyers
If you plan to export, a catalog in your local language alone isn't enough. Overseas buyers must be able to evaluate your products without an intermediary.
Which language?
English is the default language of international trade. If China is a target market, produce a Chinese version too — it makes a significant difference to response rates. A bilingual catalog serves both domestic and export customers.
What international buyers need
- Product code (SKU): essential for placing orders.
- MOQ: the first thing a wholesale buyer asks.
- Precise technical specs: dimensions, weight, material, standards.
- Production capacity: your monthly supply capability.
- Packing details: units per carton, carton dimensions.
Standardise your units
Use international units: centimetres, kilograms, USD. Quoting in local currency confuses overseas buyers.
Take photography seriously
In international trade the buyer has never seen the product and decides purely from images. White-background photos from several angles, plus a packaging shot, build trust.
Tip for trade fairs
For overseas fairs, prepare both a printed version and a QR code linking to the online catalog. Visitors won't carry a heavy catalog, but they will scan a QR code.
